Les Halles de Lyon

By Marjorie Taylor

Europe, France, Lyon

On your next visit to Lyon, be sure to visit Les Halles de Lyon. It’s a gastronome’s dream come true. Located within walking distance from the train station, it is filled to the rafters with the specialties of the region.

Les Halles de Lyon is more like a modern gourmet food store than a traditional French marché. If you arrive early in the morning, it is very likely that you’ll run into the local restaurant owners haggling with the merchants and seeking out the freshest meat, fish and vegetables.

Lyon’s love of great food is no secret and it has everything a cook could ever wish for. After filling up your market basket, be sure to pull up a stool to one of the bars. Order a dozen oysters and a glass of bubbly to toast your good fortune in the gastronomic capital of France.
